Transcript:

Hi, my name is Robert Cioffi. I am a graduate of 1971 class at Seton Hall, and they were the for best years of my life because of all the wonderful friendships I formed here and the wonderful professors I had. I’ve had a wonderful education and, I’ve never forgotten my time here. I was a happy member of the Theater in the Round group at that time, under the direction of Professor Rathbun and Doctor McGlone and Joe Peluso.

They were three of the, professors that ran the communications department at that at that time. And we did terrific productions such as Musicals Celebration. And Now is the Time for All Good Men, A Thurber Carnival. And we also did the classics. We did Hamlet, we did Antigone. So when you were a student back then, you really had a well-rounded foundation in the dramatic arts.

You could do the classics and you could do musicals. with the whole Seton Hall community at that time was. And I’m not sure it’s that way today. It was just so welcoming of everyone, and it’s amazing that you know that now I’m 75 years old. I can look back and still, remember so many names from Seton Hall, wonderful professors like Father Ken O’Leary and Doctor Eden Soro and Thomas Stuff and Thomas Lucas, all from the English department.

And then the professors I mentioned from the theater and Communications department. Mr. Rathbun, Doctor McGlone, Doctor Duff, Mr. Peluso. And the religious atmosphere was also strong, just as it is now with a wonderful ceremonies. And it was a very time of upheaval because it was the Vietnam era and I was a freshman living in Boland Hall. I remember that I was one of the few students that was lucky enough to have a television in our room.

So everyone would gather to our room to watch the lottery of who was going to be drafted for the Vietnam War, so it’s really a turbulent period of time. So being in a place like Seton Hall was extremely important and nourishing for both your educational background and your spiritual well-being. So, coming back to campus today is such a wonderful experience.

It’s grown so much, and I’m just so grateful that I’m a member of this community. And I will never forget what Seton Hall did for me and for my classmates.
