Abstract
The U.S. Government is a prolific publisher of information on music and musical issues. The author examined many documents representing this information, with the intention of determinig how various Federal agencies handle musical issues and disseminate information on music. This examination has led to the conclusion thath the Federal Government assumes four major fuctions with regard to music, and that the resultant publications exhibit these functions. The article includes annotated, representative examples from each category.
