Abstract
In “A Second Coming,” a naïve college freshman struggles to reconcile the suicide of his only model figure in his family with his own search for belonging and meaning in his life. Drug abuse and semi-toxic friendships parallel the narrator’s relationship with religion and his brand of homemade Catholicism. In “Rock Bottom,” a former child star who has walked away from fame with a desire to have a normal life must choose between her dependable fiancé and her former friend, a celebrity and potential love interest. A chance to reconnect with this Hollywood actor forces her to confront the glamorous appeal of the life she left behind, and the underlying trauma that accompanied it.
