Membership Selection

Membership in the Seton Hall Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law is limited to second and third year law students who are selected on the basis of their performance on an annual writing competition coupled with their first year GPA. Seton Hall Law School students who are interested in joining must participate in the write-on competition at the end of their 1L year, commencing immediately after finals of the spring semester.

All members are selected based on a combination of their write-on competition scores and their first year grades. The competition requires students to analyze a variety of materials, including case law, law review articles, statutes, and other legal publications. The current members and editors grade each submission focusing on the author’s style, substance, citations, use of sources, conclusion, as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

In recent years, the number of students who complete the competition has ranged from 100 to 180. Of these, between 15 and 30 students will be asked to join. Students involved in the competition will be notified of the results by July.
