Course Description
This course examines the global challenges and opportunities confronting the United States and the efforts of US policymakers to craft a grand strategy that adequately addresses them. It covers key historical junctures in the development of American Grand Strategy, concentrating on post–World War I to the present. This class will also focus heavily on the system of alliances that help underwrite American Grand Strategy. The class will examine both the theory and the practice of grand strategy, and it will consider both defenses and critiques of the choices US leaders have made.
