Course Description
Traditional paradigms of development have focused on economic growth and industrialization to raise incomes, move up value chains, and increase a nation's power. More recently, the focus has turned to efforts to eliminate poverty and hunger, improve access to healthcare and education, and increase social inclusion. Yet amid increasing awareness of the difficulty of achieving lasting and positive development, especially when considering its environmental costs, has come a new focus on the concept of sustainability. This course explores the how, what and why of sustainable development in its economic, political, social and environmental dimensions, both practically and theoretically.
